DELHI METROS SWACHH CHETNA DMRC ECO CLUB LAUNCHES SPECIAL GREEN DRIVE 13.08.2017
The project, organised by ‘Swachh Chetna – DMRC Eco Club’, one of Delhi Metro’s initiatives to promote environmental conservation, was formally started with a plantation drive at the Jangpura Metro station on Friday. DMRC’s Managing Director Dr. Mangu Singh and other senior officials planted saplings and inaugurated the drive. Children from DMRC’s Children’s Home at Tis Hazari also participated in the event.
In the coming weeks, similar plantation drives will be organised at DMRC’s depots as well as residential areas. ‘Swachh Chetna – DMRC Eco Club’ was launched last month with a plantation drive organised on the Metro premises near Qutab Minar in association with Shri Ram School, Gurugram.
In another project to promote the cause of environment, DMRC has also tied up with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to start the ‘Adopt a tree’ campaign. As part of this campaign, 6,000 saplings of native tree species will be distributed at 15 Metro stations to individuals free of cost on every Thursday and Friday during the month of August.
The saplings will be distributed between 4 and 7.30 PM and the stations are: HUDA City Centre, MG Road, Chhattarpur, Saket, Malviya Nagar, Hauz Khas, Dilshad Garden, NOIDA Sector 18, Botanical Garden, NOIDA City Centre, Laxmi Nagar, Vaishali, Anand Vihar, Badarpur and Dwarka.
Delhi Metro has always been very conscious about its responsibilities towards the environment. Delhi Metro has become the world’s first ever Metro system to get green certification for all its major buildings and installations. It is also the world’s first rail based system to claim carbon credits. DMRC plants about five to ten thousand saplings every year as part of its green initiatives.AD/ED(CC)/DMRC
