DELHI METRO STARTS ‘SWACCH CHETNA – AN ECO CLUB’ IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE SHRI RAM SCHOOL, GURGAON
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in association with the Shri Ram School, Gurgaon today launched ‘Swacch Chetna - An Eco Club’. It is an initiative aimed towards spreading greater awareness about the protection of environment as well as the importance of maintaining cleanliness.
To mark the beginning of the initiative, a tree plantation activity was conducted today at DMRC premises along the Metro viaduct near Qutab Minar. Students from the Shri Ram School along with DMRC personnel planted saplings to spread greenery in the vicinity.
As part of the activity, the students have also opened a facebook page to spread awareness among their fellow mates and other children. A wall will also be provided to the students for wall art, where they will paint on the theme of environmental preservation.
A logo designing competition will also be organized among the children to decide the logo of the club. In course of the next few months, the eco club will organize many new activities like cleanliness drives at Metro stations, street play competitions for children etc.
The Delhi Metro has always been very conscious about its responsibility towards the preservation of environment. Recently, it has constructed a park at Shastri Park called ‘Prakriti – Metro Park’ primarily using construction waste.
The Arjangarh Metro station on Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line (Samaypur Badli – HUDA City Centre) has been given an artistic makeover, with Indian and international artists painting various illustrations across the walls of the station on themes related to environment.
Delhi Metro is also running a series of puppet shows across the schools in the city to educate the children about etiquettes and displine of traveling by the Metro. More than 200 such shows covering about 50,000 children have been organized so far.
The Delhi Metro plans to take this initiative to more schools and involve a large number of students in spreading awareness about the environment and the importance of maintain cleanliness. AD/ED(CC)/DMRC
