DMRC Starts Construction Work on Faridabad Corridor
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today started piling (laying of foundation for piers/pillars on which
viaduct will be put up) work on Badarpur to YMCA Chowk (Faridabad) corridor. With this, the civil construction for
13.875 kilometers long Metro corridor actually commenced. The first piling work started near Sector 28, Faidabad on
the Mathura Road National Highway.
The piling work was undertaken in the presence of Shri Mangu Singh, Managing Director/DMRC, Directors and other
senior officials from DMRC and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA). Piling is the core activity required for
carrying out foundation work of Metro pillars on which the viaduct will be erected.
The average height of the pillars on this corridor will be approximately 9 meters and over 500 piers (pillar) will be
erected to make the viaduct for this corridor.
On this corridor, Delhi Metro will be using specially designed pre-cast U shaped Girders to complete the viaduct in a
short time of 20 months. This is for the first time in Delhi Metro’s history where a single span of approx. 27 meters in
length and weighing about 160 tonnes will be used. These spans will be cast in advance at a Casting Yard near Sector
-12 (Faridabad) and once the piers are erected, they will be brought to the site on trailers (mostly during night hours)
and installed in the fastest possible time to avoid any inconvenience to the traffic running along the alignment.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Government of Haryana and Delhi Metro Rail
Corporation (DMRC) for extension of this Metro Corridor took place on Monday, the 26th of March, 2012.
This fully elevated corridor will have 9 stations and likely to be operational by year 2014. This is an extension of already
operational 20.16 km long Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor of Line -6 which is further extended from Central
Secretariat to Kashmree Gate covering 9.36 km. Once fully operational, Line-6 will be running from Kashmere Gate to
YMCA Chowk having a length of 43.40 KM and 32 Metro stations. Of these, five will be interchange stations namely,
Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, Lajpat Nagar and Kalkaji Metro Station.
